Green Valley Drain Cleaning Tips

We could actually go on and on with this list, but you get the idea. Anything not liquid, not dissolvable, not “squishy” and “break-downable,” or generally not supposed to go down the drain can cause obstructions. So here is a quick and dirty (pun intended) list of DIY troubleshooting solutions to handle drain clogs.

  1. Protection — Use gloves and any other protective gear that may be necessary to keep unsanitary sewage/liquid off of your person. No one wants that. So stay clean while you work!
  2. Plunge It Up — The plunger is usually a great first choice for dealing with clogged drains. You can use a plunger on any drain so long as the circumference of the plunger completely covers said drain. Attempt to create a full seal, push down and pull up with some “UMPH.” The vacuum created by the plunger will hopefully suck the clogged up and loosen the material so as to allow free flow once again.
  3. Al’s Secret Trick — To help loosen up the clog, you can add dishwasher detergent and very hot water before plunging a drain. We recommend 3-4 cups of hot water and detergent (If there’s room!) to help loosen the clog. Let it sit for 5-10 mins before going in with your plunger again.
  4. Be Resourceful (But Also Careful!) — There many many different solutions for resolving clogged drain repair issues: a bent shirt hanger, a wet and dry vacuum, boiling water, a drain snake, drain clog dissolvent products, a pressured hose, and whole list of other ways to try to bust those jams. But be careful. Some solutions come with definite risks which may complicate the problem. If you’re not sure, don’t hesitate to call Al’s for a free appraisal any time, 24/7.
