Not only are they gross, but they can be quite stubborn sometimes! So if you find yourself stuck with a backed up drain, fear not! Try these simple techniques before you reach for the phone:
One of the Most common problems
Clogged drains are one of the most common problems in every household. Eventually, enough substance build up inside the pipes will start to slow the draining process down, eventually bringing it to a complete stop. Although we can take measures to lessen the chance of a drain backing up, eventually one is bound to happen, so read on to see how you can attempt to remove it yourself!
The Unsung Hero
As many of you in Marana know, the plunger is a common item found in many households today, and if you don’t have one, you can pick one up at your local equipment store. If you have your plunger handy, here are some quick tips to help you tackle that clogged drain efficiently:
- First, get the right plunger. You may not know it, but there are two main different types of plungers. One works best with sinks, and the other for toilets. There is also a third type that combines a sink and a toilet plunger together, making it the perfect household item. Make sure that the plunger you are using is able to create a solid vacuum on the drain you will be plunging!
- Plunge Correctly – Focus on the pullback, just as much as the push down! Most people only focus on pushing the plunger down but the pull back is actually what creates the vacuum to unclog the toilet.
- If you find that the drain is being quite stubborn, use Al’s secret trick! Use dishwasher detergent and very hot water before plunging. We recommend 3-4 cups of hot water and detergent to help loosen the clog. Let it sit for 5-10 mins before going in with your plunger.
